SMAC strives to constantly
improve existing products and work with our customers to
introduce new solutions to their needs. Shown below are examples
of our most recent projects, some of which are still in the
development stages or at beta sites.

Pendant
Programming The SMAC Programming Pendant has been developed in response to customer requests for a programming method which does not rely on a computer and does not require any detailed programming knowledge from the user. This is aimed primarily at gauging and switch test applications, particularly in the automotive industry where SMAC has seen substantial growth due to their actuators suitability for high-speed 100% in-line inspection of parts. The hand held pendant is used to send instructions to the SMAC LAC controller via the RS232 port. These commands are interpreted by the controller and stored in the appropriate sequence for execution during automatic operation. Up to 4 axes of motion can be programmed with up to 40 steps of motion within the program. The system can be commanded to carry out key motion functions of the SMAC moving coil actuator such as high speed moves to position, soft-landing and applying force. It can also be setup to read position and force and to perform comparisons on these parameters. The user is prompted to provide GO/NO-GO tolerances at each point of the measurement cycle. In this way applications such as switch testing and component measurement can be programmed. SMAC are currently running the Pendant at Beta sites and anyone interested in participating in these tests should contact the UK SMAC office for more details. |
| LAC45
Controller The LAC45 is a 4-axis controller which has been developed using the same criteria as the single-axis LAC1 and dual-axis LAC25. In common with these controllers it is programmed using mnemonic type command instructions via an RS-232 interface into NVRAM. It requires no supplementary software. It has a built in amplifier and it can control each axis either independantly or co-ordinating all 4 axes. It has 8 I/P and 8 O/P opto isolated general purpose channels, 6 analog I/P and 4 analog O/P channels and an RS232 interface. |

| LA35
SERIES The LA35
series of actuators represents the latest in voice coil
technology from SMAC, and is their most advanced and
robust actuator yet developed. It continues the SMAC
tradition of supplying direct drive high-resolution
motors capable of tightly controlled high-speed work
profiles. It is available in Linear, Linear Rotary &
Linear Slide variations. It incorporates a robust linear
guide, sub-micron resolution reflective glass scale
encoders and ribbon cable construction throughout. |

| LAL10
Low Profile Actuator The LAL10, which is still in development, has been developed in a quest to provide an actuator with the smallest possible profile. despite its diminuitive size the peak force is still expected to be a useful 600 grammes. Stroke length is 5mm and encoder resolutions will give the usual 5/1/0.5 micron options. |
|
| GRP
17 Mini Gripper In
common with the LAL10, a need was identified to provide a
low profile gripper. The demands made in miniaturising a
gripper would normally lead to compromises in performance
or specifications, but we have retained our ability to
independantly control each jaw and despite its size each
jaw is still expected to generate 400 grammes force.
Encoder resolution will once again be 5/1/0.5 micron. |
